Frühjahrsputz bei LAIKA. Die Stop-Motion Magier aus den USA trennen sich von einigen (genau genommen über 250) ihrer geliebten Puppen, Modelle und Props, die sich über die Jahre angesammelt haben und versteigern sie beim Auktionshaus Heritage Auctions. Darunter originale Figuren und Zeichnungen aus den Filmen Coraline, ParaNorman und natürlich Boxtrolls. Die Auktion soll am 12. Februar in Beverly Hills über die Bühne gehen. Ein Teil des Erlöses geht dabei an “The Art of Elysium“, eine karitative Stiftung, die einen kunsttherapeutischen Ansatz verfolgt in dem sie schwerkranke Kinder mit Künstlern zusammen bringt.
“LAIKA is known for its artistry and revolutionary stop-motion animation techniques,” says Jim Lentz, Heritage Auctions’ Director of Animation Art. “The studio’s legions of die-hard fans regularly ask LAIKA for the opportunity to own some of the masterfully engineered puppets, props and other artwork used to make these beloved films. So the studio is finally offering a specially curated collection of items from its production archives. This is the chance that those fans, and animation and film collectors of all stripes, have been waiting for.”

Die hochaufgelösten Bilder der Puppen mit all ihren Schrammen, Fugen und Eigenheiten erinnert mich daran, was für eine Faszination von guten alten Stop-Motion Fuguren ausgehen. Im Frühjahr letzten Jahres konnte ich am Internationalen Trickfilmfestival in Stuttgart einige der Boxtrolls Puppen aus nächster Nähe bestaunen und anno 2009 sogar ganz kurz eine der originalen Coraline Modelle in der Hand halten. *Fanboygasm*
